Sometimes a donation looks missing in Gracely, or the numbers do not match what you see in Stripe. In almost every case, the gift is there. It just looks different. This article explains why, and how to find any gift.
Stripe shows the charge. Gracely shows the gift.
Stripe records the full amount collected from the donor. Gracely records the gift your church receives, after processing fees.
Example: a donor gives $100 by card and covers the fees. Stripe shows $103.30. Gracely shows $100.00. Same gift, two views.
So if you search Gracely for the exact amount you see in Stripe, you may not find it. Search for the donor's name or the approximate date instead.
Bank transfers (ACH) show a later date in Gracely
Card donations clear almost instantly. Bank transfers take a few business days to clear.
Stripe shows the date the donor submitted the gift.
Gracely records the gift when the bank transfer clears, usually 4 to 6 days later.
Example: a donor gives by bank transfer on June 14. The money leaves their bank around June 15. The gift appears in Gracely on June 18.
If you are looking for a bank transfer gift, check a few days after the Stripe date.
"Charge" vs "Payment" in Stripe
Stripe uses different labels for different payment types:
Charge means a card donation.
Payment means a bank transfer (ACH).
Both are normal. Both are recorded in Gracely. Only the timing differs, as explained above.
The gift exists but is not on the donor's profile
Gracely matches online gifts to member profiles by email address. If a donor gives with a different email than the one on their profile (for example, a spouse's email or a second personal email), the gift is still recorded in Contributions → Giving. But it is not linked to their profile automatically.
To fix it: open Contributions → Giving, find the gift, click the three dots next to the donor name, and connect it to the right member. The gift will then appear in their contribution history and tax statement.
Quick checklist for finding any gift
Go to Contributions → Giving and search by donor name, not amount.
Check a wider date range. Bank transfers post a few days later.
Remember that Gracely amounts are net of processing fees.
If the gift is in Giving but not on the profile, link it with the three dots.
