Connecting giving to accounting

How to link giving funds to accounting accounts so donations flow into your books automatically.

Link your giving funds to accounting accounts so donations show up in your books automatically — no double entry.

Why connect them?

When a fund is connected to an account, every gift to that fund automatically updates the account balance. You don't have to add a manual income entry, and your giving and accounting always match.

⚠️ Note: Accounting is a Pro plan feature, and giving must be set up (Stripe and/or PayPal connected) for contributions to flow through.

How to connect a fund to an account

You connect a fund and an account when you create or edit the account:

  1. Go to Accounting → Accounts.

  2. Click Add account (or open an existing account to edit it).

  3. Enter the account details (name, Asset or Liability, opening date, starting balance).

  4. Choose the fund to connect this account to.

  5. Click Create (or save your changes).

What happens after connecting

  • New giving to the connected fund automatically increases the account balance.

  • The income shows up in your Income Statement, Fund Balance Summary, and Balance Sheet reports.

  • You don't need to record those gifts manually.

💡 Tip: Use one account per real bank account, and connect it to the fund where that giving actually lands, so your books mirror reality.

Tips

  • Set up your funds first, then create accounts and connect them.

  • Review your reports monthly to confirm giving is flowing in correctly.

  • Keep expenses as separate entries — only connected giving is added automatically.
