What is the member directory?
The member directory is a private, members-only space inside Gracely where people in your church can look each other up. Depending on how each member has set things up, a directory entry can show:
Profile photo
Full name
Email address
Phone number
Address (street, city, state, ZIP)
The directory is only visible to authenticated members of your church. It is never public, and it is never shared between churches.
What's new
Previously the directory felt all-or-nothing — either a member's details were shown or the directory was off. Now every member decides, field by field, what other members can see:
Photo — show or hide your profile picture
Email — show or hide your email address
Phone — show or hide your contact number
Address — show or hide your address
You can share some details and hide others. For example, you can let people see your email but keep your phone number and address private.
For admins: managing the directory
Manage a specific member's visibility
From a member's profile in the admin dashboard you can adjust the same per-field controls on their behalf — useful when someone asks you to update their settings for them.
Contact details (email, phone, address):
Open the member's profile and click Edit details.
Each field has a visibility toggle beneath it:
"Member's email is visible to other church members in the member directory."
"Member's contact number is visible to other church members in the member directory."
"Member's address is visible to other church members in the member directory."
Toggle as needed and Save.
Photo:
On the member's profile sidebar, use Hide photo on directory / Show photo on directory for a one-click change.
A small badge on the profile photo shows the current state — a green eye (visible) or a gray crossed-out eye (hidden).
For members: how to control what you share
You manage your own visibility from your profile in the My Gracely mobile app. If you only use the web member portal, ask a church admin to update it for you.
Open the My Gracely app and go to the Profile tab.
Tap Edit details.
For each item you want to control, use the toggle:
Photo — "Allow other church members to see my photo in the member directory."
Email — "Allow other church members to see my email in the member directory."
Phone — "Allow other church members to see my contact number in the member directory."
Address — "Allow other church members to see my address in the member directory."
Turn each toggle on to share that detail, or off to hide it.
Tap Save. You'll see "Profile updated successfully!"
On your own profile, each field shows a small eye icon so you can tell at a glance what's shared (open eye = visible to members) and what's hidden (crossed-out eye).
What other members see
When someone browses the directory, they only ever see the fields you've chosen to share:
If you hide your phone, no one can see your number — and the Call and Text buttons on your card disappear.
If you hide your email, the Email button disappears.
If you hide your address, the Map button disappears.
If you hide your photo, your card shows your initials instead of a picture.
Frequently asked questions
Is the directory public? Can people outside my church see it? No. The directory is private to your church and only visible to signed-in members of that church. It is never public and never shared across churches.
If I hide a field, can admins still see it? Yes. Visibility settings only control what other members see in the directory. Your church admins can always see and manage member contact details in the dashboard.
Do I have to set this up? No. By default your details are visible to other members once the directory is on. You only need to change something if you want to hide one or more fields.
Can I hide just my address but still share my email? Yes. Each field — photo, email, phone, address — is controlled independently.
I hid my phone number. Why can't people text or call me from the directory? That's expected. When a field is hidden, the related action buttons (Call/Text for phone, Email for email, Map for address) are removed for everyone else.
Does hiding my photo delete it? No. Hiding only removes it from the directory for other members. Your photo stays on your account and is still visible to you and your admins.
