How to Add Someone to a Family

Connecting people to families helps you manage households, giving, communication, and pastoral care more effectively. In Gracely, you can add someone to a family directly from their profile in just a few clicks.

When to add someone to a family

Add someone to a family when:

  • They belong to an existing household

  • They recently joined and need to be connected

  • A family relationship was missing or incorrect

Each person can belong to one family only at a time.

Add someone from their profile

Step-by-step

  1. Go to People from the left sidebar.

  2. Open the profile of the person you want to connect.

  3. In the actions list, click Connect family.

  4. In the Family name field, start typing the family name.

  5. Select the correct family from the list.

  6. Click Connect.

The person is added to the family right away.

Confirm the connection

After connecting:

  • The family appears in the Connected family card on the profile.

  • The person shows up in the family’s members list.

  • You can click View family to open the full family profile.

No page refresh is needed.

What happens after connecting

Once connected:

  • The person becomes part of the household

  • Family communication applies to them

  • Giving and attendance can be viewed in family context

  • A head of household can be assigned if needed

Add someone from the family profile

You can also add people directly from the family view.

  1. Open Families.

  2. Select the family.

  3. On the Details tab, click Add family members.

  4. Search for and select the person.

  5. Confirm.

This is handy when you’re building a whole family at once.

Removing someone from a family

If someone was added by mistake:

  1. Open the family profile.

  2. Click the three dots (⋯) next to their name.

  3. Select Remove from family.

The person stays in your People list and can be added to another family later.
