How to apply for Stripe’s Nonprofit Program for your church

What is the Stripe Nonprofit Discount?

Stripe’s standard transaction fee is 2.9% + $0.30 per donation. Eligible nonprofit organizations, including churches, may qualify for a discounted rate of 2.2% + $0.30 per donation (U.S. rates). That’s nearly 25% savings on Stripe fees!

💡 This applies to most Visa and Mastercard donations. American Express and international cards may not be eligible for a discount.

Who is Eligible?

To qualify for Stripe’s nonprofit rates, your church must meet the following:

  • Be a recognized nonprofit or charity in your country (e.g. 501(c)(3) in the U.S.).

  • Process at least 80% of your Stripe volume as tax-deductible donations (not ticket sales or product purchases).

  • Have an active Stripe account.

Required Documents

Before you apply, gather these documents:

  • Proof of nonprofit status

    • U.S.: IRS Determination Letter with your EIN

    • Other countries: Charity registration or equivalent proof

  • Stripe account email address (used to sign up)

  • Confirmation statement that at least 80% of your funds are tax-deductible donations

How to Apply

  1. Log in to your Stripe account
    Visit dashboard.stripe.com and confirm your account details are up to date.

  2. Send an email to Stripe’s Nonprofit team

What Happens Next?

  • Stripe usually responds within 5–10 business days.

  • If approved, the discount will apply automatically to future eligible transactions.

  • You’ll receive a confirmation email from Stripe.

What’s Next After Stripe Approval?

Once Stripe approves your nonprofit fee request, you'll need to update your fee settings inside Gracely to reflect the new discounted rate.

Follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Gracely dashboard
    Visit https://app.gracely.io/login and sign in with your admin account.

  2. Go to the "Funds" page
    From the left-hand menu, click “Funds” to view all your active giving funds.

  3. Click “Configure Online Fees”
    On the top right of the Funds page, click the “Configure Online Fees” button.

  4. Update your Stripe fee rate

    • Adjust the fee percentage to reflect your new nonprofit discounted rate (e.g., 2.2% + $0.30 for U.S. churches).

    • Save the settings to apply them to all new donations moving forward.

Note: This step ensures that Gracely correctly calculates and displays giving totals and fee breakdowns based on your discounted rate.
