If your church is a registered nonprofit, Stripe may offer a discounted processing rate. This article walks you through applying and then updating your fee tier in Gracely.
What is the Stripe Nonprofit Discount?
Stripe’s standard transaction fee is 2.9% + $0.30 per donation. Eligible nonprofits, including churches, may qualify for a discounted rate (for example, 2.2% + $0.30) per donation on U.S. rates — meaningful savings on Stripe fees.
💡 This typically applies to most Visa and Mastercard donations. American Express and international cards may not be eligible for a discount.
Who is eligible?
To qualify, your church generally must:
Be a recognized nonprofit or charity in your country (e.g. 501(c)(3) in the U.S.).
Process at least 80% of your Stripe volume as tax-deductible donations (not ticket sales or product purchases).
Have an active Stripe account.
Required documents
Before you apply, gather:
Proof of nonprofit status — U.S.: IRS Determination Letter with your EIN; other countries: charity registration or equivalent.
Stripe account email address (the one you signed up with).
A confirmation statement that at least 80% of your funds are tax-deductible donations.

Log in to your Stripe account at dashboard.stripe.com and confirm your details are up to date.

What happens next?
Stripe usually responds within 5–10 business days.
If approved, the discount applies automatically to future eligible transactions.
You’ll receive a confirmation email from Stripe.
After Stripe approves: update your tier in Gracely
Once Stripe approves your discount, update your fee tier in Gracely so totals and fee breakdowns stay accurate:
From the left-hand menu, open Funds (or Giving).
Open the actions menu and click Configure online fees.
Click Edit settings, then select the fee tier that matches your new Stripe rate.
Gracely offers several lower tiers (1.5% + $0.20, 1.5% + $0.25, 1.7% + $0.30, 2.2% + $0.30), so pick the one that matches what Stripe approved.
Click Save settings.
